عرقل آلاف العمال المضربين والمتظاهرين الآخرين حركة المرور في أثينا ومدن أخرى في جميع أنحاء اليونان، اليوم الخميس، بمناسبة احتفالات عيد العمال المعاد جدولتها.
كما عطلت الإضرابات والاحتجاجات الرحلات الجوية والمواصلات العامة، وأوقفت العديد من خدمات العبارات إلى الجزر.

وتمت إعادة جدولة فعاليات عيد العمال هذا العام بسبب عيد الفصح الأرثوذكسي الذي صادف يوم 2 مايو.
وتعارض النقابات وأحزاب المعارضة اليسارية بشدة خطط حكومة يمين الوسط لتعديل لوائح العمل، ما يسمح لأصحاب العمل بتغيير ساعات العمل اليومية في حدود 40 ساعة في الأسبوع.
وتقول الحكومة إن الإصلاحات المقترحة تعكس الطبيعة المتغيرة للعمل، والتي شوهدت أيضاً أثناء عمليات الإغلاق بسبب الوباء، بينما تجادل النقابات بأن التغييرات ستقوض حقوق العمل وأجور العمل الإضافي.
وتضغط نقابات العاملين في مجال الرعاية الصحية أيضاً على الحكومة لتوظيف المزيد من الممرضات والأطباء بعقود بدوام كامل، بالإضافة إلى تقديم مكافأة مخاطر لأولئك الذين يعملون مع مرضى كوفيد-19.

كانت المسيرات سلمية بشكل عام، لكن مجموعة صغيرة من المتظاهرين العنيفين اشتبكت مع الشرطة لفترة وجيزة في وسط أثينا.
